This is the heartwarming a fireman rappelled down a well to save a frightened kitten that was trapped at the bottom.

The animal rescue crew rushed to the scene in the village of Jatijajar in West Java after a worried resident reported hearing the desperate cries of a cat nearby.

Six officers were dispatched to pull the moggy to safety on September 11.

Footage shows an officer being fitted with an oxygen mask before descending into the 25ft shaft.

Rescuers beamed a light into the darkness, and he scooped the drenched feline from the cold water.

Tesy Haryati, Head of Operational Control and Rescue at the Depok City Fire and Rescue Department, said: 'The officers arrived at the scene equipped with complete equipment, including scuba gear, personal protective equipment, and a pulley system.

'The evacuation took about 30 minutes, and the kitten was successfully evacuated alive and well.'
