Families were trapped in their homes as flood from Super Typhoon Man-Yi started to rise in their street in the Philippines.

Footage shows residents watching from their doors as the water filled the road outside in Catanduanes province on November 16 evening.

Some of them rushed to remove the debris of branches and leaves that could block the path of the water and cause it to build up.

While the others reinforced their windows as they braced for heavier rains throughout the night.

Resident Shara Mae Manlangit said: 'The wind was extremely strong and we were absolutely terrified. The intensity of the wind was truly frightening.

'Suddenly, the wind stopped, and people went outside to check the situation and look at the sea, which was already entering our barangay.

'After 15 minutes, the weather changed again, and the disaster continued.'

Super Typhoon Man-yi, locally named Pepito, was the archipelago's 16th tropical cyclone this year and the sixth major storm to ravage its island in under a month. It killed at least eight people.

The typhoon made land fall twice as a super typhoon before weakening and leaving the country on Monday, November 18. It was expected to reach Hainan, China on November 20 travelling northwestward.

The typhoon comes days only after five other storms Toraji, Trami, Yinxing, Kong-rey and Usagi killed hundreds, displaced thousands and caused widespread damage.
