An air crane helicopter removed a mountain shelter in Italy.

Footage shows the Erickson Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, known as 'Cochise', airlifting the bivouac in a precision manoeuvre carried out by the Italian Fire Brigade on November 16.

The historic 'Andrea Bafile' shed was removed from the Gran Sasso massif in the Abruzzo mountains after serving as an emergency refuge for nearly six decades at 2,669 metres above sea level.

Personnel from the Alpine Rescue Corps and Nanni School mountain guides prepared the bivouac for transport.

Once secured to the helicopter's hook, the structure was relocated to Fontari. It will undergo restoration before being displayed in the historic centre of L'Aquila.

A Drago helicopter provided logistical support, highlighting the coordination required to preserve this iconic landmark built in 1966.
