This is the heartwarming moment a stray dog stuck on a fence was rescued in Thailand.

The black-and-brown mutt had tried to leap over the fence but its legs were caught between metal spikes at a home in Samut Songkhram province on December 30.

The homeowner called rescue volunteers after hearing the pooch crying throughout the night.

Footage shows officers trying to calm down the frightened dog - seen in the video panting with stress - as it hung upside-down. The rescuers sawed off a part of the metal fence and carried the animal back down.

Rescuer Natthapon Uchaiwan said the dog was already exhausted despite being trapped for less than an hour.

He added: 'If it had been left there any longer, more blood could have flowed to its head and caused complications. The dog was a stray and not familiar with humans.

'We had to cover its head to keep it from biting, but its testicles were further squeezed between the grilles because it was struggling. It was probably wandering around looking for food.'

Officers checked the dog for injuries before releasing it back into the neighbourhood.
