Magnitude 6.2 earthquake shakes homes in El Salvador

This is the moment a magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook a home in El Salvador on Sunday, January 5.

Footage captured by resident Chris Escobar shows a television set shaking inside a house in Santa Cruz Michapa during the tremor.

He said: 'Very strong earthquake in El Salvador.'

Authorities reported that the earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean, south of La Paz Department, El Salvador, at approximately 11:18 am. The epicentre was located around 29km (18 miles) southwest of Playa Costa Del Sol and 68 km (42 miles) south of San Salvador.

The quake struck at a depth of about 4 km (30 miles). Tremors were likely felt across much of El Salvador and southeastern Guatemala, including Guatemala City, western and southern Honduras and northwestern Nicaragua.

No significant damage or injuries have been reported.
