Strong Wind Gusts Cause Outdoor Furniture to Scatter in Seattle Yard, Captured on Camera
Date: February 25, 2025, around 2:15 AM
Location: Seattle, WA, USA
A powerful windstorm swept through northwestern Washington on Tuesday, February 25, causing damage in several areas, including fallen trees and widespread power outages.
The National Weather Service (NWS) recorded a wind gust of 52 mph at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, almost matching a record set in 2008.
In a remarkable turn of events, security footage from Mark DeLoura’s home in the Lower Queen Anne area shows a strong gust of wind ripping through his yard, tossing his covered outdoor furniture around. Mark explained that the bubble structure, which had been a part of their backyard for five years, was anchored with over 200 pounds of bricks and water. Originally set up during the Covid pandemic to provide a safe space when someone was sick, it had since been used as a greenhouse and a winter retreat to enjoy the outdoors.
Mark shares: "We set up this 15-foot backyard bubble to help during the pandemic when one of us was sick. We then kept it for use as a greenhouse and for outdoor enjoyment in the winter. Despite being weighed down, the wind was too strong."
