Tourists flee as fire rips through condo in Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya
Terrified tourists fled as a fire ripped through a condominium in Thailand.
The holidaymakers were evacuated from the building after a fire broke out in a third-floor room in 'Sin City' Pattaya, in the early hours of March 5.
An onlooker said he called authorities upon noticing thick smoke wafting out of the balcony.
Footage shows guests waiting outside as firefighters entered the condo. Fire alarms blared as the officers marched through the smoke-blanketed corridors to douse the flames.
A fire department spokesman said: 'The cause was a butane stove that caught fire, which spread along the wall of the the room. There were no casualties or injuries as the fire was immediately extinguished.'
Fires in Thailand are commonly caused by aging electrical infrastructure, extensive use of wood in construction, and regional heatwaves that can exacerbate fire risks. Rapid fire response can also be hampered in densely packed neighbourhoods where narrow streets can delay firefighting efforts.
On February 5, a fire tore through a hotel spa sparking evacuations in Bangkok.
While on February 3, guests were sent fleeing into the street when a fire tore through another hotel also in the Thai capital. The blaze broke out at the five-storey building after a visitor allegedly left the stove unattended while cooking dinner.
