This is the dramatic moment a puppy stranded in a 16ft deep well was rescued by heroic firefighters in Russia.

Concerned residents found the stray in a pit filled with debris and car tyres in Primorye, prompting them to call Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM).

Footage shows the emergency responder climbing the storm ladder while carrying the pooch in his right hand.

EMERCOM said in a statement on March 25: 'Fortunately, the dog was not hurt. So the little one found a new home: now it will live in the fire and rescue unit of the city of Artem. The employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry surrounded it with care, attention, and warmth.'

The firefighters also washed, fed, and watered the canine while still deciding on a name for the rescued pet.
