A pet dog was rescued after falling 100ft into a canyon in Colorado.

The canine, Yogi, visited the National Monument with her owner when she plunged down the slope on April 2.

The pair had pulled over to enjoy the relaxing view when, unexpectedly, excited Yogi leapt out of the vehicle and dashed towards the ledge, falling into the gorge.

Deputy Strauch, who was nearby, responded with a dog-catching pole. The Mesa County Search and Rescue's ropes team also arrived to assist the terrified pup.

Dramatic footage shows the heroic emergency responders working together to pull the four-legged pet to safety with a harness clipped into her body.

Yogi was seen wagging her tail upon reaching the ground.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said: 'Her owner was extremely grateful and took her to the emergency vet right away.'
