Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office responded to a startling street racing incident involving a 12-year-old driver in a neighborhood near DeLand. The child was behind the wheel of his front-seat passenger’s mom’s car, racing another juvenile driver—age 17—down a residential road in broad daylight.

The incident occurred in Daytona Park Estates, where deputies observed the two vehicles speeding side-by-side toward a marked patrol car. Both juveniles received citations and must appear in court. Authorities emphasized the extreme danger of street racing, especially in neighborhoods with recent accidents tied to reckless driving.
