Oxford University’s Balliol College hosted their May Ball on Saturday 10 May evening.

The college, which is the oldest in the city and founded in 1263, was where Boris Johnson and Rory Stewart studied.

The ball was a Black Tie themed night of ‘Star Crossed Lovers’ with attendees also encouraged to wear masquerade masks.

Early on Saturday evening students wore their best dresses and suits and lined up along Broad Street in the city centre as they waited for the doors to open.

Drone footage pictured the different stages and areas of the ball, transforming it into a mystical setting.

The night’s headliner was early 2000’s band, Toploader known for hits like ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ there was also a silent disco, dancers and even a rave room pumping out techno into the surrounding streets.

The night ran from 8pm until 4am when those who lasted the whole night had a ‘Survivor’s Photo’ before being let out onto the streets of Oxford to wander home.

Some were seen clutching their shoes as they gave their feet a rest and others were given a lift on a bike through the streets.

Various other Oxford Colleges also had their balls on the same evening, including Lady Margaret Hall where stragglers were also seen making their way home at 5am.

In recent months, some colleges from Cambridge have shunned the traditional May Ball for lesser garden parties or discos as prices spiralled with many students unable to afford tickets.

The sold out Balliol Ball had tickets available for Alumni students priced at a reasonable 165 pounds which includes food, drink and various games and music acts.
