WAUSAU, Wis. — Officer Kutchenriter, known for his work as a School Resource Officer, recently took on an unexpected wildlife rescue—giving a cautious opossum a safe lift off a busy stretch of Stewart Avenue.

The opossum was spotted on the sidewalk and appeared hesitant to cross the high-traffic area. Kutchenriter stepped in to help, ensuring the animal didn’t have to brave the road alone.

“It may have been a bit skittish at first, but we're confident it was grateful for not having to cross the busy street on foot...or paw...whatever,” the department wrote on Facebook.

The rescue is just another example of the department’s community-minded approach—whether it’s helping students or the occasional four-legged resident.
