SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Deputies in El Dorado County responded to an unusual call for service in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 17, when a large bear was spotted behind the counter of the Ice Cream Shop at Camp Richardson.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the bear appeared particularly interested in strawberry ice cream before being encouraged to leave. Fortunately, the bear — nicknamed “Fuzzy” — caused minimal property damage, and cleanup efforts were light.

Deputies said no one was injured during the encounter. The sheriff’s office reminded the public to remain cautious around wildlife and to secure food sources in order to prevent curious animals from wandering into human spaces.
