Police caught an alligator attacking a chair on a family's front porch in Florida.

The rogue reptile caused chaos in the Tortuga neighbourhood on Friday, 9 May, after it wandered from door to door.

Concerned residents quickly alerted the Lee County Sheriff's Office after spotting the predator seemingly picking a fight with a chair.

Footage shows the gator roaming along porches before the bizarre encounter ended with the chair wrapped around its head.

Officers responded to the scene and contacted a licensed trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who helped wrestle the animal into a pickup truck.

The sheriff's office jokingly said: 'Knock knock! Your visitor is chomping at the bit to come in!'

The alligator was safely secured and removed from the area without injuring residents or responders.

Florida has a huge wild alligator population estimated to be as many as 1.3 million. They live in rivers, swamps, ponds, and lakes and often appear in front of humans.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission found that female alligators typically do not grow beyond 10ft, while males can reach even larger sizes. The state record stands at 14ft 3.5 inches.
