NEWCASTLE, Okla. — A parked Newcastle Police Department vehicle was struck by lightning during severe storms on May 20, officials confirmed.

Fortunately, no one was inside or injured when the bolt hit the unoccupied cruiser, which was captured on security cameras outside the police department.

Emergency officials used the incident as a reminder to take lightning threats seriously: If you hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck. Authorities urge residents to seek shelter, avoid trees and metal, and unplug electronics during storms.
