This is the dramatic moment soldiers rescued a pregnant woman amid catastrophic floods in Brazil.

Footage shows troops from the Military Brigade Aviation Battalion walking the heavily pregnant mother, 30, into an aircraft as a deluge swamped roads in Rio Grande do Sul on Wednesday.

The lady and another resident were strapped into their seats before being flown out of the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Robson Emanuel Leite Camargo, commander of the battalion, said an airlift was necessary as parts of the region have been cut off due to heavy floods.

The woman was later taken to a hospital in Santa Maria.

State governor Eduardo Leit said at least two people were killed and one was missing as heavy rains battered the region.
