WESTFIELD, N.J. — A police officer in New Jersey came to the aid of a young deer that had fallen into a basement window well, drawing attention for the heartwarming rescue.

The Town of Westfield Police Department reported that a resident discovered the stranded fawn and tried to assist by placing cardboard boxes inside the well, hoping the animal could climb out. When that failed, Officer Loffredo responded to the call.

The officer safely lifted the fawn from the window well and released it unharmed into a nearby wooded area. The animal did not appear to be injured.

The department shared the rescue as a reminder of the everyday compassion shown by law enforcement officers in communities around the world.
