BELGRADE, SERBIA - JUNE 23, 2025: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Monday, June 23, that Serbia has halted arms sales to Israel following Israel’s recent clashes with Iran. Speaking after an expanded General Staff meeting in Belgrade, Vucic said Serbia considers both Israel and Iran as friendly nations and stressed that the country wants peace in the Middle East. Vucic acknowledged that Serbia continued supplying ammunition to Israel after October 7, 2023, despite criticism, but confirmed that sales have now been suspended due to the ongoing conflict. Over the recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Vucic called them a clear violation of international law and warned that global security is sliding into chaos. Vucic added that Serbia will strengthen its army and reintroduce mandatory military service, alongside efforts to improve conditions for professional soldiers. Israel and Iran have been engaged in aerial combat since June 13 when Tel Aviv launched a surprise attack on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes. Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks. Meanwhile, in Iran, at least 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry. In Gaza, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive since October 2023, killing nearly 56,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Filip Stevanovic / Writing by Aleyna Cil
