Led by the US Navy's 6th Fleet, and the Ukrainian Navy an Exercise called Sea Breeze started near Portland.
Around 8 ships came together to begin practising techniques to deal with the latest underwater devices and threats. Items that blight the Black Sea waters a body of water that borders Ukraine's southern border. Plus a vital shipping route for world wide grain supplies.
The exercise will see NATO allies and Ukraine use mine hunting vessels, explosive ordnance disposal teams, diving and salvage experts and remote underwater and surface vessels to boost operational effectiveness for the allies.
Whilst most of the 'excitement' will happen underwater, Admiral Mattis of the US Navy said residents will see ships and people 'coming in and out' and there will be 'some surface ship activity' be seen from the shore.
The Royal Navy also said Portland's geographical importance in the training exercise. The port of Portland and exercise area provide an ideal place to do both shallow and deep mine counter measures.
This is a chance to see of one of the Ukrainian's new mine hunter vessels, given to them by Belgium. s
