This is the shocking moment a pickup truck's chassis snapped and one of its wheels came off on a road.

Dashcam footage shows the grey vehicle coasting along the highway when sparks suddenly erupted from its rear axle in Chonburi, Thailand.

A concerned motorist driving nearby slowed down and repeatedly honked to alert the driver to the danger on January 11.

As the car approached, one of the truck's rear wheels, along with a suspension rod, detached and rolled uncontrollably off to the side of the road.

The pickup driver quickly pulled over and exited the vehicle, while the witness also stopped to offer assistance.

The filmer said: 'The driver told me he didn't realise there were flames and only noticed something was wrong when the brakes failed.

'Since the road was sloping downhill at the time, the driver admitted that had the wheel not come off, the truck might not have stopped at all.'

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
