Five crew rescued as helicopter crashes into sea in Malaysia
This is the heart-stopping moment a helicopter carrying five crew members crashed into the sea in Malaysia.
Terrifying footage shows the aircraft plunging into the waters near Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, in Johor earlier today, July 10.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said that the chopper was involved in a regional security training drill when it crashed at around 10:25 am.
He added: 'The helicopter was participating in a multi-agency simulation exercise held in conjunction with the Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore Nuclear Security Detection Exercise 2025.'
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed that the aircraft, an Airbus AS355N with registration number 9M-PHG, had departed from the Tanjung Kupang police station at 9:51 am.
All five people on board, including the pilot, were rescued by the marine police. No fatalities have been reported.
The crew members were transported to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru for medical evaluation and treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Airbus AS355N, also known as the Twin Squirrel, is a light twin-engine helicopter developed in France. It is commonly used for law enforcement, training, and utility missions and is valued for its versatility, manoeuvrability, and reliability in multi-role operations.
