On July 12, in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, a frightening scene occurred outside a gold jewelry recycling shop. Just as the shop owner, Mr. Wei, turned to enter the store after seeing off a customer, the shop’s overhead signboard suddenly collapsed, crashing down onto electric scooters parked on either side of the entrance. The handlebars were bent and the stands damaged. Mr. Wei was less than a second away from being struck.

Mr. Wei said the signboard was made of thick wooden slats and aluminium panels, and it may have fallen due to age and disrepair. Fortunately, both he and the customer had just moved away from the danger zone, and no injuries were caused. “People often sit at the entrance, we were very lucky this time,” he said. The signboard is now scheduled for removal and repair.
