A Russian tourist allegedly attacked his friends then jumped to his death from a pool villa roof in a drunken rampage in Phuket.

Khushang Bakiev, 36, removed all of his clothes before scaling the pool villa at the Nai Harn Beach Condominium on the Thai holiday island on Saturday.

His friends tried to restrain him but he was said to have attacked them.

Footage shows the out-of-control holidaymaker screaming as he flailed around naked on the brown shingled roof. He then reportedly leapt from the 20ft height, cracking his head on the pavement.

Police were notified at 3:52 pm local time. They arrived at the scene and found Khushang lying dead in a pool of blood.

Police Lieutenant Kriangkrai Daokrajai of the Chalong Police Station said: ‘Forensic doctors performed a preliminary inspection of the body at the scene. Then, we had a rescue team transport it to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a post-mortem exam before contacting the embassy. His relatives have been called to collect his body.'

The Russian's friends said he was inebriated and restless, and had attacked one of them before clambering up onto the roof.

The incident is among the latest in a string of fatalities involving falls from hotels in Thailand this year.

Just a day earlier, American tourist Justin Todd Henry, 35, plunged to his death from a hotel balcony in Chiang Mai.

While on July 2, Austrian guest Mario Frey, 45, died in a drunken fall from the steps of his resort hotel in Surat Thani.

On June 4, British tourist Kerry Bruce, 58, lost her balance and tumbled off the edge of an unprotected walkway while walking up to her room in Phuket.
