LEWISTON, N.Y. — Police officers and a state environmental officer worked together to rescue several cows trapped inside a burning barn on Saunders Settlement Road, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

The rescue occurred yesterday when Officer King and Officer Richeal, assisted by Officer Scheer of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, responded to a reported structure fire at a barn. Upon arrival, officers were informed that multiple cows remained trapped inside as the fire threatened to spread.

Despite difficult and hazardous conditions, the three officers entered the barn and successfully freed the animals, guiding them to safety before the flames intensified. No injuries to officers or animals were reported.

The department released a brief clip from Officer King’s body-worn camera showing the urgency and challenges faced during the rescue. Officials praised the coordinated effort, noting that quick action and teamwork prevented the incident from becoming far worse.
