Kolkata Flooded After Record September Rain
Video shared by X user Syeda Shabana shows severe flooding across Kolkata following intense rainfall overnight, marking the heaviest September downpour in nearly five decades.
The footage reveals streets completely submerged, affecting both residential and commercial areas, including Puja Fashion Market and Gholeshapur Railway Colony. Residents wade through the water as motorcycles and a van struggle to navigate the flooded roads.
Heavy clouds continue to loom over the city, with ongoing rainfall worsening the situation. Transportation has been disrupted, leaving metro services and local trains suspended, while preparations for Durga Puja have been damaged.
The 29-second video illustrates the extensive impact on infrastructure and daily life. Authorities report at least 10 deaths linked to the floods.
Syeda Shabana said that Kolkata has been underwater since last night, with normal life completely disrupted.
