US, Phoenix: Phoenix Suspect Shot By Police After Holding Child Hostage With Machete With Sound On Tape Graphic Content
Phoenix, United States - September 25, 2025 09/24/2025 10:20 pm GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to Sergeant Phil Krinsky with the Phoenix Police Department's Public Affairs Bureau, Phoenix police were called to an apartment complex located just north of Bethany Home Road on 31st Avenue to reports of a domestic violence situation on Wednesday night. Upon arrival, officers were directed to an apartment unit occupied by a man armed with a machete with a child at his side. Officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he refused to comply with their instructions. Officers deployed less-lethal rounds at the man, but they were ineffective. Officers then discharged their service weapons, striking the man. They were able to disarm the man and safely remove the child. Fortunately, the child did not suffer any serious injuries. The suspect sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid until the fire department arrived, and both the child and the adult male suspect were transported to the hospital. The child is expected to be fine, while the suspect remains in critical condition and continues to receive treatment. The investigation is ongoing, and further details, including the number of officers involved and specifics about the shooting, are still under review. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation.
