Bronx Ventilation Shaft Explosion Brings Attached Structure Down
Early Wednesday morning, just after 8:00 a.m., FDNY crews rushed to 207 Alexander Avenue following reports of an explosion that caused a structure attached to the building to collapse.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported from the incident.
Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker said units arrived in under four minutes. Multiple FDNY and EMS teams responded quickly, and search dogs were deployed over the debris, which was identified as a ventilation shaft linked to the building’s boiler—the suspected source of the blast.
Tucker highlighted the coordination among emergency teams: “While we might have been here first, the fact is that nothing in public safety happens alone, and it’s just a really amazing response.”
FDNY Fire Marshals, the NYPD, and other city agencies are now investigating the cause of the collapse.
