This is the terrifying moment roofs were ripped off by a storm in Indonesia.

Gusty winds gradually picked up speed before blitzing a housing complex in the Bandung Regency in West Java.

CCTV footage shows the tempest dismantling corrugated iron roofs as it swept into the Cijagra area on Sunday afternoon.

Residents took shelter indoors as metal sheets, dust, and debris were hurled into the air during the brief but intense whirlwind.

The Bandung Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said 49 houses were damaged in Kampung Cijagra RW 09 and 10.

One resident, Arinah, 68, was taken to a hospital after being struck by a falling roof panel.

BPBD head Wahyudin said: 'Damage assessments are ongoing to determine the severity of the impact on each affected house.'

Perdana Reynaldy Augus Usior, forecaster at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) in West Java, said: 'Atmospheric instability is currently in the mild to strong category, indicating potential for the formation of local convective clouds.'

The BMKG warned of moderate to heavy rains and extreme weather that may affect Sukabumi, Garut, Cianjur and Bandung Regencies until October 8.
