This is the shocking moment a power bank exploded while it was charging next to a couple's bed.

CCTV footage shows the husband browsing his iPad while sitting on the mattress as his partner slept beside him, when the device suddenly emitted smoke and caught fire.

The startled man can be seen leaping up and running away as sparks flew across the room on October 17.

His girlfriend quickly followed him out of the bedroom in Samut Prakan, Thailand.

Moments later, he rushed back inside to push the burning power bank from the bed before dousing it with water.

He managed to extinguish the flames just in time, preventing the fire from spreading further.

The homeowner said: 'We had been using the power bank for more than two years. I think it exploded because it was already old. The battery had started to swell and may have deteriorated over time.'

Neither of the couple were injured.
