A toddler who was locked inside a hot car while his father went shopping was rescued by paramedics.

The two-year-old boy, Jayo, had been told by his father, Worathep Wongbut, 48, to wait in the gold Mazda while he stepped out to buy soy milk in Chonburi, Thailand, on November 2.

However, the curious youngster accidentally pressed the lock button and did not know how to open it again, leaving himself trapped in the sauna-like conditions.

When Worathep returned, he found his son stuck inside the sweltering vehicle with the engine turned off and immediately called for help with the assistance of bystanders.

Footage shows paramedics first checking if the child was safe before forcing a gap in the window to let air inside. Jayo appeared calm throughout the rescue.

The father said: ‘I went to buy some milk. I left him inside because I would not be long, but he locked the door. I could not get in.'

The team inserted a wire through the window to hook the lock and pull it, spending 20 minutes before successfully prying open the driver's side door.

One of the rescuers carried the boy out of the car as he cried and reached for his father, who quickly comforted him.

Jayo was not seriously hurt, though he appeared shaken from being trapped inside.

Surichai, a volunteer from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre which released the toddler, said: ‘Please never leave children unattended inside vehicles, as such incidents can lead to serious consequences, including suffocation or heatstroke.'
