US: Officer Saves One-Year-Old Child In Dramatic Sterling Heights Rescue

Sterling Heights, United States - December 17, 2025 On December 17, 2025, Sterling Heights Police and Fire responded to a 911 call after a one-year-old child was reported not breathing at a home near 18 Mile Road. Evidence Technician Officer Virgadamo, the closest officer in the area, arrived within one minute of dispatch. He was met outside by the child’s mother holding her unresponsive son, Roman. Recognizing that the child was choking and not breathing, Officer Virgadamo immediately began lifesaving measures. Moments later, Roman started breathing and crying. Sterling Heights Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after to provide advanced medical care. Roman was transported to the hospital for further treatment and is expected to recover. Sergeant Jespersen and Officer Emily Elgert remained on scene to support the family during the emotional incident. “Officer Virgadamo’s ability to arrive quickly, remain composed, and take immediate lifesaving action quite literally made the difference between life and death,” said Police Chief Andy Satterfield. “We are incredibly proud of his professionalism, training, and dedication to this community.” Officer Virgadamo’s rapid response and calm decisiveness were credited with saving Roman’s life, demonstrating the impact of training and courage under pressure.
