US, Bakersfield: California City Fatal Traffic Collision Closes SR-14 Near Phillips Road
Bakersfield, United States - December 31, 2025 12/31/2025 12:41 pm GMT-0800 CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. – A fatal traffic collision prompted the closure of northbound State Route 14 near Phillips Road in eastern Kern County on Wednesday afternoon. According to California Highway Patrol traffic logs, the incident was reported at approximately 12:41 p.m. and involved a solo vehicle rollover in the northbound lanes just north of Phillips Road. Initial reports indicated that two vehicles were involved in a tailgating incident, with one vehicle ultimately rolling over and coming to rest on its side. A smell of gas was reported at the scene. Emergency crews shut down northbound lanes, with traffic diverted off SR-14 at Phillips Road. CHP noted the closure was expected to be long-term, with the Traffic Control Team authorized to fully shut down northbound traffic as needed. At least one lane was initially closed before a complete shutdown occurred. Multiple agencies responded, including fire units and ambulances. The fire department cleared the scene after 48 minutes, while CHP continued their investigation. One person was pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. No additional information regarding the victim has been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by CHP. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the investigation and roadway cleanup were conducted.
