Los Angeles, United States - January 06, 2026 01/06/2026 02:00 am GMT-0800 HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – California Highway Patrol officers in East Los Angeles pursued a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning. The pursuit concluded near Avenue 52 and the 110 Freeway when the suspect drove into a riverbed and entered a storm drain. Shortly thereafter, the car's horn sounded, and smoke began to billow from the tunnel. In response, CHP requested the Los Angeles Fire Department to address the car fire at the scene. Officers canvassed the area to determine whether the suspect had managed to escape the vehicle. During the search, an open manhole was discovered near Carolita Boulevard and Avenue 56. It is believed the suspect fled through the manhole, evading capture by officers.
