This is the amusing moment a curious marmoset stared directly into a home security camera while climbing all over it.

The wild monkey was seen inspecting a surveillance device at a private home in Jundiai, Sao Paulo, Brazil, owned by resident Elcio Calciolari.

Footage shows the primate sniffing the camera, climbing on it, stepping away, and then repeatedly returning on Saturday, keeping its attention fixed on the equipment.

Elcio said the behaviour stood out because of how long the animal remained watching.

He added: 'Other wild animals had passed through the area before, but none showed the same level of curiosity.'

He noted that marmosets are common locally and often roam in search of food.

Marmosets are the world's smallest monkeys, averaging 12 to 16 inches in body length, with long tails of similar size for balance and climbing. They have sharp claws on all fingers, which help them grip branches.
