This is the shocking moment a schoolgirl who was left briefly unattended on a scooter pulled the throttle and whizzed away.

A father was dropping his son off at a school in Rajasthan, India, while his nine-year-old daughter was sitting behind him.

CCTV footage shows the man adjusting the boy's backpack before stepping off the two-wheeler to open the school gate for him on the morning of January 9.

While he was holding the gate open, his daughter moved to the front of the vehicle and twisted the accelerator.

The scooter sped off uncontrollably before crashing into a pile of cow dung and overturning on impact near the Dali Bai Temple Circle on the Chopasni Bypass.

The child was thrown from the vehicle as her frantic father and brother rushed to her aid.

Local media reported that the girl sustained only minor injuries in the incident. She was given first aid at the school clinic shortly after the crash.
