US: Cambridge Police Officers Risk Lives To Save Man From Active Train Tracks
Cambridge, United States - December 27, 2025 Body-worn camera footage shows a dramatic rescue by two Cambridge police officers on December 27, 2025, when a man fell onto the Red Line tracks at the Central MBTA station. Officers were patrolling Central Square when a bystander ran up to alert them about the man on the tracks. With less than a minute before the next train arrived, the officers sprinted down the stairs and jumped onto the track bed. “The nearest train is in one minute,” an official is heard saying in the footage. Officers Miguel Mijares-Munoz and Deric Maddaleni quickly reached the man, with one saying, “Let me grab him,” while helping him back onto the platform. Sgt. Bob Reardon explained the danger: “The third rail power on the train was still active, and they weren't sure if they'd be able to get a message to that train in time to stop it before a tragic incident happened. They were able to physically pick him up and put him onto the platform, and then escape the active railway before there was any train coming in.” The man sustained minor injuries and was expected to recover fully. Both officers were recognized for their bravery during a police roll call. Reardon added, “In some cases, they have to, as in this case, put themselves in harm's way. Certainly, with the train coming and the third rail power active, that is not a safe place to be.”
