In a shocking incident, staff of a prominent airline assaulted a passenger on the tarmac over a disagreement.

The incident, which took place on October 15 at Delhi airport, has come to light now triggering widespread outrage in India.

The passenger, Rajiv Katiyal, who had flown in from Chennai on 6E 487, got into an argument with the ground staff of the low-cost IndiGo airline after deboarding the plane. He was reportedly upset over the late arrival of the airline bus that ferried passengers from the tarmac to the airport terminal.

A video of the incident shows the airline staff asking Katiyal not to abuse and act his age.

The argument escalates and one of the staff stops Katiyal from boarding the airline bus. As he drags Katiyal away from the bus, a fight breaks out between them. At least two IndiGo staff are seen pushing Katiyal to the ground and throttling him as he tries to fight back.

The fight continues for over a minute till they are separated by other staff members.

In the video Katiyal can be heard saying, "How can you push me?" in English and "How dare you!"

After the incident became public on November 7, IndiGo Airlines apologized and said that the guilty staff had been fired.

In a statement, the airline said the incident had been probed by a committee and that they had taken “action against staff who was main culprit, by immediately terminating his employment," the airline said.

Aditya Ghosh, President of IndiGo, said: "I acknowledge the unpleasant experience our passenger went through, while engaging with our staff at Delhi airport. I had personally spoken to the passenger and apologized," he said.
