A group of villagers battled for five hours to save a blackbuck’s life in a risky rescue mission.

The blackbuck, also known as the Indian antelope, had fallen into a 100-feet open well in a village in Beed district in the state of Maharashtra in west-central India.

Though the well was drying up in the searing heat of summer, there was still about four feet of water left, which saved its life by cushioning its fall.

A boy spotted the animal and informed his fellow villagers about it.

A group of men quickly gathered and decided to rescue the animal.

Three of them climbed down the well and fastened the blackbuck to a rope. While their friends hauled up the animal, one of the rescuers followed it with impressive agility to make sure it made it to the top safely.

They later took the animal to a hospital, where it is being treated for a broken leg.
