Driver amazed when meteor lights up night sky
Incredible dash-cam footage captures the moment a meteor illuminated the night sky on May 2.
Arin Thammawong, 35, was driving with wife Suchada, 30, and three-year-old son, Ball, when the stunning bright green comet zipped down from the heavens in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, at around 8pm.
The father-of-one is heard saying ''wow, what was that?'' as wife Suchada says ''it's something from space, I think it's a meteor or satellite''.
More footage from a second parked car shows how the meteor flew down to earth with a glowing ball of green fire at the top and a long tail of orange flames.
It lights up the sky for a brief moment before disappearing from view. It is believed to be from the Tau Herculids, a meteor shower said to originate from the star Tau Herculis
Arin said: ''This was amazing. I feel very lucky to have seen this and caught it on camera. I don't think there'll be another one like this for a long time.
''There sky that night was quite clear so it was easy to see the meteor. We both made wish as we're told to when we see a shooting star.''
Onlooker Tanakor Kamad, 23, who also witnessed the meteor in the Mae Chan district of the northern province near the border with China and Burma said it was ''spectacular''.
He added: ''It has not been reported whether the meteorite has fallen to the ground anywhere near here. We have checked and it probably exploded in the atmosphere before it reached the ground.''
