A heroic woman rescued dogs trapped in floods around her house during Typhoon Vamco in the Philippines.

Arly Torio, 48, was sleeping inside the family home in Rodriguez, Rizal province, when the flash floods submerged their neighbourhood early morning on November 12.

Instead of gathering important belongings and food supplies, the senior pet lover rushed to check on her dogs.

With the help of her husband, she was able to carry all six pooches one by one to the roof while the water quickly rose.

When all of their pets were safe, they climbed the roof following their dogs and other relatives.

The elderly couple even saved a drowning dog abandoned by one of their neighbours who went to the evacuation centre.

The family was trapped on the roof without food and soaked in the heavy rain. They only had their phones to call for rescue and update their other relatives that they are safe.

Arly said the lives of her dogs are more precious than any material thing that they could have saved.

She said: “They are like my babies, I treat them like my child. A mother puts her child on top of everything so I think I did the right thing.”

Typhoon Vamco, known locally as Ulysses, killed at least 159 people in the Philippines before moving eastwards and making landfall in Vietnam.
