Residents of a village in Indonesia caught a giant python in their rice fields on Saturday 28 November.

People in Lagan Gadang Village, South Coast District in West Sumatra appeared to tie the snake's mouth and hold its tail to prevent it coiling up, so that it could be put in a sack more easily.

One local, Ari, said the python was about 5 metres long and that he thought it was likely to have been dragged into the fields by the flow of local rivers swollen by heavy rain.

The residents handed over the snake to the Natural Resources Conservation Agency who will release it into the forest.

because they were afraid of being twisted, residents seemed to tie the snake's mouth so that it could be pulled and some held its tail to try to put it in the sack.

a resident of Lagan Gadang, Ari said that "the python with a length of 5 meters was very large, it was found that the residents were not eating but were crossing the residents' rice fields".

Ari suspects that the python is likely to have been dragged by the river flow, which in the area was poured by heavy rain and the caterpillars into the residents' rice fields.

The residents handed over the snake with a large size to the Natural Resources Conservation Agency for safekeeping and will be released back into the forest.
