Two passengers were detained by the airport custom officials at Chennai International Airport, Chennai of Tamil Nadu south Indian state.

The duo were smuggling gold and foreign currencies concealed in slipper and luggage into India.

The footage shows, the custom official removing the hidden gold from the slippers and currency notes recovered.

Seized gold and currency notes placed on the table for further investigation.

The reports state, one of the passenger identified as Mohammed Hasan Ali (23) from Ramanathapuram arrived at the Chennai International Airport by Emirates Flight EK 544 from Dubai and was spotted by a custom official who got suspicious on helping the accused get his flip flop after it fell which was unusually heavy and took him for interrogation, they found gold worth $ 16299 (Rs 12 Lakhs).

The other passenger identified as Sahubar Sathik (21) also was from Ramanathapuram who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express Flight IX 1643 was intercepted by the custom officials at departure terminal seizing Saudi Riyals worth 7000 ( 500 denomination) and US Dollars 7000 (100 denomination) all worth $ 8829 (Rs 650000).

The total value of the seizure from the duo was $ 25128 (Rs 1850000) and were seized under the Customs Act.
The officials are investigating the case and taken the duo into their custody.
