Heartwarming moment stranded dog is rescued from floods in Thailand
This is the heartwarming moment a stranded dog was rescued from floods that have killed at least 24 people in southern Thailand.
The pooch was clinging to a palm tree surrounded by the deluge in Nakhon Si Thammarat province when it was found on December 5.
Rescue volunteers were patrolling the flooded village on a lifeboat to evacuate the stranded residents when they discovered the dog.
Footage shows the tired dog shivering under the tree after being trapped for at least 12 hours.
One of the rescuers, Nong Sribungorn reached for the weary dog and patted its back to calm it down.
She then carried the wet creature onto the rescue boat where it silently sat down with its saviours.
Nong said the dog may have been washed into the trees when the flash floods ravaged the village.
She said: ''It still makes me sad every time I think of the floods, I realise so many lives were lost. We couldn't rescue every animal that happened to be dragged away by the water when the floods hit.''
The animal lover added that the dog may have attempted to leave but the water was too deep and it was too tired to swim.
The team rowed through the rubber plantation, hoping to find more trapped animals but found none so they left the area.
The team took the pooch to a nearby village in Chawang district where its health was checked before being fed.
