Soldiers have been deployed in Cape Town to combat the continuing violence in the taxi industry.

The Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, visited the Bellville taxi rank in Cape Town on July 26 pleading with warring taxi organisations to come to an agreement.

soldiers from the South African National Defence force have been deployed to support police in combatting violence in the mini bus taxi industry.

Over 80 lives have been lost in taxi related violence since January.

The Minister of Police, Bheki Cele visited the Bellville taxi rank in Cape Town earlier today. He was on a fact finding mission to look at the feasibility of the deployment. Cele also pleaded with warring taxi organisations to come to an agreement.

Local business who derive income from the transport interchanges have also been affected as these remain empty. Thobile Mgcelini is one of the affected business persons.
