A spotted dear had a lucky escape when it was rescued from a deep well in South India on 30 July.

The well is in Gopichettipayalam, adjacent to a forest range, in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu.

Forest animals often venture into human settlements in the area, in search of food and water.

This deer, doing the same, fell into a deep well in the village. But when farmer Lakshmi Rajan went to the well to irrigate his land, he heard the animal and looked inside.

To his surprise he saw a spotted deer swimming in the well. He immediately informed the local forest and rescue officials, who were then able to lift the animal out with a big net.

After its rescue it was checked for any injuries but fortunately it was healthy. Then it was taken to the forest and was released. It vanished within a few seconds of release.

Lakshmi Rajan the farmer went to his land to water his plants. He heard unusual noise from the well. He went near the well and peeped inside.

To his suprise he saw a spotted deer swimming in the well. He then immediately informed the forest staffs and rescue staffs. They rushed to the spot and the deer was airlifted using a big net.

It was checked for any injuries but fortunately it was healthy. Then it was taken to the forest and was released. It vanished within a few seconds when it was released.
