This folk artist dances barefoot on shards of glass while wearing heavy headgear in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The dancer called Dr. R Kalaiyarasan was dressed in traditional attire as he began dancing over broken glass scattered across a floor.

Kalaiyarasan, 21, manages to balance the heavy water pot on his head all while completing the routine.

The 21-year-old has several records to his name including dancing non-stop on a dummy horse for three hours.

A 21-year-old folk artist, identified as Dr. R. Kalaiyarasan, astonished the spectators with his mind-boggling talent in southern India's Tamil Nadu on July 31. Hailing from Coimbatore, the young artist has added several feathers to his folk cultural hat in Guindy in Chennai.

Visual features Kalaiyarasan dressed in traditional attire, carrying elaborately decorated headgear on his head. He performs a dance routine before displaying his skill of dancing on top of a mountain of glass pieces in front of his audience. The audience's cheer gets louder as he continues to swing his body with a bright smile on his face without an inch of hesitation.

The water pot, traditionally known as a Karagam, is a headgear worn while performing Karakattam, a folk dance of Tamil Nadu for rain goddess Mariamman. Kalaiyarasan has been inclined towards folk culture since his childhood and has dedicated his life to preserving it. He founded the Gramiya Pudhalvan Academy and has created several global records.

He made the world record for lifting 1,000 blades with his eyelashes while supporting a Karagam and reserved his place in the Noble Book of World Records. Not just that, he has been awarded the United Nations (UN) Global Compact award, an honor for exhibiting 32 different art forms. He is also accredited for making a world record for lifting 18,200 needles with his eyelashes while wearing a Karagam.

Kalaiyarasan has also created separate global records for performing Parai Attam on a single stage for an hour and Poikkal Kuthirai Attam for three hours. He also bagged records for performing folk dances on broken glass pieces for several hours.

The young folk artist founded the Phoenix Book of World Records and is the youth and brand ambassador of several organizations such as the International Youth Society and the United Nations (UN) Global Goals for Sustainable Development. He is the traditional cultural trainer representing the Tamil Nadu government and is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and assembly president of the Win Wings of Fire Social and Universal Kalam Trust. Moreover, he is the India Secretary of the Sri Lanka Maruthi World Trust and goodwill ambassador of an organization in Indonesia.

Kalaiyarasan has over 84 branches of his institute spread across Tamil Nadu. He has 15,000 students across the state and 4,000 students in Coimbatore. The young folk artist received his honorary doctorate from The Diocese of Asia. He also danced non-stop for three hours on glass pieces and two hours on Karuppasamy Aattam. Furthermore, he also created a new world record by dancing traditional dummy horse dance by performing it for three hours without lifting the karagam on his head on March 2, 2020.
