A classical jazz event has been held at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s historic wine region, on Saturday 4 December.

It happened despite South Africa bearing the brunt of rising Covid-19 numbers, driven in part by the Omicron variant.

South African authorities are on high alert at start of the festive season.

Romy, a bass guitarist with the jazz group, Bokani Dyer Trio, said coronavirus restrictions in South Africa had forced artists to be innovative in their performances.

America Peguillan, organiser of the Jazz and Classical Encounters event, says it was challenging to organise the event amid rising Covid numbers.
