Starving abandoned baby found covered in ants on mountain in Indonesia
This is the harrowing moment a newborn baby boy was found after being abandoned on a mountain in Indonesia.
The infant had a bloodied bruised eye when he was spotted crying as ants and soil covered his body in Mount Salak in Aceh province on Saturday afternoon March 12.
Passing locals initially thought the baby was only a doll but rushed to help when he cried. Footage shows a young lad picking up the infant and taking him to a hut to clean.
The young man Wiki Mahdiarsyah, 22, removed the ants crawling on the boy and poured mineral water on the baby to clean with the help of his friends before they rushed him to a health centre.
Wiki said: 'We were on our way to Bener Meriah but on the side of the road we saw a figure like a doll. It was moving.
'The baby was dirty and looked weak. The baby was only wearing a singlet shirt. The cloth that covers his body had come off while his nose and mouth were already covered with dust.'
The group then asked for help from motorists and locals before the baby was taken to the nearest health centre.
Police were also called to the scene to begin searching for the boy's parents.
Meanwhile, medics at the Nisam Health Centre said the baby was estimated to be around 10 to 20 days old. He was generally healthy but was weak and hungry when they received him.
The bruise on the boy's face was reportedly likely due to him falling onto the ground from one of the benches. He will now be taken to social services while investigations are ongoing.
