Brave protesters set alight photos of Burmese dictator Min Aung Hlaing on his birthday.

The masked demonstrators took to the streets of Yangon on July 3 to decry the iron rule of the politician and army general, who seized power in Myanmar following a military coup in February 2021.

Footage shows the freedom fights setting fire to a large tarpaulin with Min Aung Hlaing's face printed on it. They also raised a banner with the words 'Yangon strikes with the goal to reunite'.

Fighting between the armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been murdered during military crackdowns on protests. Nobel Peace Prize Laurette Aung San Suu Kyi was kidnapped and has been held in custody on 'politically motivated' charges.
