A large 14ft-long wild python had to be rescued when it was caught on a net with a bulging stomach from eating a chicken.

The serpent slithered inside the coop and preyed on the farmer's birds in Ang Thong province on November 11.

After eating, the snake was ready to flee the property but stuck on the netting with an enlarged tummy.

Footage shows the creature wriggling on the object as it struggles to escape from the farm.

Farmer Payoon Damngam, 64, said: 'The dog kept on barking so I went to check the coop. Something was moving behind the cage, so out of curiosity, I looked and saw the snake.'

Payoon added that he counted the chickens and discovered that one was missing.

He said: ‘My chicken that cost 1,000 baht was missing. I knew it was the snake that ate it.'

An animal rescue team was called on the property to evacuate the snake. Brave female snake wrangler Ratha Tapianthong removed the snake on the net using bare hands.

Ratha said: ‘The snake's stomach was too big to pass through the net after eating the chicken. We took it to the wild for release.'

The farmer thanked the team and added it was not the first time that one of his birds went missing.

Payoon said: ‘Some ducks and hens went missing before. I thought they were stolen or wandered out and were lost but now I am sure that it was the snake who had been taking my animals.'

The snake was taken back to the forest for release.
